On new bike tour, pedal halfway and take a boat back.

In summer, bicycle tours are a dime a dozen.

But Minnesota's Lake City has launched one with a novel concept: On the 32-mile route of its new Tour de Pepin, bicyclists return on the Pearl of the Lake paddlewheeler.

It's on June 7, and registration is $40 until May 16. A 15-mile route takes riders to Wabasha, where they return by bus. The 32-mile ride takes them around the south end of the lake to Stockholm, where they return by boat. The 72-mile route takes them all the way around Lake Pepin, a widening in the Mississippi River.
