In spring, inns need extra hands.

In spring, people who are willing to get dirty can earn their keep at a favorite inn.

The Minnesota Rovers Outdoors Club is heading for Minnesota's Gunflint Trail April 25-28 to work on the Border Route Trail, and participants will be spending three nights at the Gunflint Lodge for a tax-deductible $70. Volunteers needn't be members.

From May 1-4, during Gunflint Green Up, when volunteers will be planting pines in fire-charred sections of Superior National Forest, the Gunflint Lodge is offering lodgings in a classic cabin, all with wood-burning fireplaces and most with sauna or steam shower, for $39 per night, per person.

And on Duluth's Park Point, Solglimt Lakeshore B&B is offering a free stay May 4-6 for anyone willing to help the proprietors work on their gardens, which were damaged during the long winter.
