Looking for campground with beach
We are looking for a campground in MN/WI with a great swimming beach, some hiking trails and secluded/private/wooded campsites. We have a small pop-up and usually stay in non-electric tent type areas. Someone mentioned McCarthy State Park, but I don't know much about it. Otherwise, we have stayed at Father Hennepin, Moose Lake, Itasca and have had a great time. We usually look for places about 3-4 hours from Stillwater. Any advice would be appreciated. - Steve, StillwaterMcCarthy Beach near Hibbing is one of the most popular camping state parks, but the one time I was in the lake, it was only knee-deep.
I'd suggest South Pike Bay on Cass Lake in northern Minnesota, near Walker. I found this rustic campground while bicycling on
the paved Migizi Trail through Chippewa National Forest. There are 24 first-come, first-served rustic sites, all shaded by
red pines and half with their own little stretch of beach. The 17-mile trail winds around the lake to Norway Beach Recreation
Area, which has a more luxurious campground and some sites that can be reserved. 218-335-8600, www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/chippewa.
